Our lecture series is an opportunity open to all caregivers, related family members, local students, community members and others who are interested. We host one lecture per semester that cover varying topics. Our first lecture was this November. See below for more details!

Spring 2026 Lecture

Our Spring 2026 lecture is about Caregiver Body Mechanics! It is taking place Monday, April 13th from 3:00-4:30pm in Steger Hall Conference Center on Virginia Tech campus.

Alexis Henderson, an instructor and experiential learning coordinator in the HDFS Department, will discuss simple strategies to help you feel safe, confident and strong when caring for others. With her MS in Occupational Therapy, she is trained in all sorts of transfers, ambulation techniques and even how to safely fall should that happen.

This lecture is for you if:

  • You feel nervous transferring the person you are caregiving for in and out of a car or chair.
  • Your back hurts at the end of the day after lifting and assisting those you are caring for.
